Metal hollow seals, also known as oil seals or metal gaskets, have very low working temperature requirements and are specially developed for oil and gas face seals. All metals, from mild steel, copper, and aluminum, to stainless steel, nickel, and mongolium, to alloys, nickel alloys, and tantalum, need to be coated with cadmium, copper, nickel, silver, gold, or gallium. The metal hollow seal is composed of a hollow metal ring, the inside is filled with noble gas, and the outside is generally made of alloy products, as a static seal, PTFE polytetrafluoroethylene material can be used in corrosion-resistant environments.
Metal seals are generally suitable for pipe groove joints, which are made of thin-walled seamless pipes bent into a circle and welded on both sides, and the temperature is higher than that of non-metallic sealing rings or sealing gaskets. However, a common sealing ring has openings or holes that make it the same pressure as the system pressure that the sealing ring seals.
The sealing effect of the metal hollow sealing ring is to compress the circle to a cross-sectional compression equal to a predetermined height equal to 20 to 25, which brings a certain filling to the surface roughness or surface parallel deviation, which can improve the sealing performance. The surface does not need to be cut and ground during machining, but there are light scratch marks when the sealing lip comes into contact with a high-hardness object. On the other hand, thin walls can be used for seals that require low flange loads, which can further control the working performance of the wall thickness. This will determine the pressure rating of the seal at around 400 based on the cross-sectional diameter and actual thickness. In addition, some metals are not suitable for thin-walled pipe rings.
